Silence.
We can crave it, yet shun it when it arrives.
It can be comforting, and frightening.
We may see it as respite at the end of a day of clutter and annoyance, or as the calm before the storm.
Yet silence is a place where God dwells.
It is a place where God dwells because, well, often in the busyness and chaos of life we don’t bother taking a moment really to notice God. We may say to ourselves, “oh sure, God is here” but then we take things back over for ourselves and let the noise step in.
But when we pause,
when we slow down,
when we listen…
we – like Elijah – discover God
in the sound
of sheer
silence.
